Transactional print suppliers

Jo Francis tracks down the solutions to your technical troubles

Q Are you able to give me any advice about finding a printer who can print 80,000 monthly invoices and dispatch to 80,000 international addresses?
Name and address supplied

A Yes. Try the following: CFH www.cfh.com; Communisis www.communisis.com; Datagraphic www.datagraphic.co.uk; DSICMM www.dsicmmgroup.com; DST Output www.dstoutput.co.uk; GI Solutions www.gi-solutionsgroup.com; Paragon Europe www.paragon-europe.com; RR Donnelley Global Document Solutions www.rrdgds.com. Many thanks to ‘Edna Bag’ for suggesting Datagraphic and Paragon via the Help Line forum at printweek.com. I’m wondering if this is the definitive list of UK transactional printers? If you know of an omission please let me know.

Q We are looking for a firm local to Norwich to service, maintain and repair when necessary our Herkules imagesetter with Harlequin RIP. Any contacts?
Jamie, via email

A No. Not local, anyway. The companies best able to meet your requirements are based in Cheltenham, home to many ex-Linotype and Heidelberg pre-press specialists. Prepress Express has the specialist know-how to service, maintain, and transport imagesetters and CTP systems and also sells this kit. Call Billy Hall on 01242 577104 or visit www.prepressexpress.co.uk. PreTronics, also based in Cheltenham, offers servicing for Linotronic and Herkules models. Contact: 01242 230077 www.pretronics.co.uk. I’m not aware of any former Harlequin or Hyphen RIP engineers operating in East Anglia, but please get in touch if you do exist. Likewise if there are any other independent pre-press specialists out there able to handle this kit it would be useful to know about.

Q I am looking to source a company that can convert rolls of 100micron removable vinyl (1.37x50m) into sheets. Quantity to be converted is 1,100 rolls. It appears that the majority of paper converters don’t want to touch vinyl. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Ben Davies, via the printweek.com forum

A I don’t know of a supplier, but hopefully someone out there will. And thanks to Jon Fennell for providing a possible pointer on the forum too.
