Trolleys suitable for plate transit

Jo Francis tracks down the solutions to your technical troubles

Q I'm not quite sure of the technical name, but I need some trolleys to which we can attach packets containing plates and then transport to the presses. I can't find any links on the web, but I know Printing.com have them in their promotional video on their website.
James Frampton, via the Help Line forum at printweek.com

A Initially I, in common with a few printweek.com forum users, thought James was referring to the sort of plate trolley that firms often either make themselves or have made up via a local fabrication company. But it turns out he means a rather more sophisticated set-up, that being the Grafi-system from Jalema Filing Systems, which was successfully identified by forum stalwart Not ‘The Doctor' (NDCT). This involves static or mobile racks with specially sturdy files for holding printing plates that hang from "a unique one-point suspension system". Jalema is based in the US, for more information visit www.jalemafilingsystems.com. For comparison it could be worth checking out the Railex offering too, which also includes mobile racks. See www.railexfiling.co.uk. I might also suggest that James peruse PrintWeek's For Sale & Wanted section and contact the auctioneers about any upcoming sales.

Photo finishers #2
Paul Abraham from trade finisher Don Dawson, part of the Alderson Print Group, has been on the blower following last week's request for suppliers able to produce photo wallets. Don Dawson has a plethora of kit for this type of work, including a "vast array" of Fidia and Bobst equipment. Contact: 020 8337 8699. I should also mention Dobson & Crowther, which lays claim to being the UK's largest manufacturer of litho printed envelopes with a range that includes photographic wallets. Contact: www.dobsonandcrowther.com or 01978 862100.

Forum friendliness
I must thank Bill Cheesman and the forum faithful for brightening my day with the delightful trail of advice and suggestions that followed Bill's website post about the challenges of trimming book blocks on his guillotine in the absence of a three-knife trimmer. It was a lovely example of the printweek.com community in action. I think Bill may still be looking for someone located not a million miles from Blandford Forum with said type of trimmer, with hand feeding capability, so please get in touch if you can help. The trail can be found here http://community.printweek.com/forums/t/3896.aspx
