Three Polestar apprentices have collected awards from the Leeds College of Technology. Matthew Patton won for engineering maintenance and Daniel Johnson picked up an award for machine printing, both from Polestar Petty. Michael Clark, from Polestar Greaves, won the outstanding effort in printing award. The ceremony took place at the Leeds Civic Hall.

Trio Offset has installed a technotrans r20 reverse osmosis system. The investment will run alongside a new Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74-10P. "With reverse osmosis for this and our other presses we know the water element is consistent," said Trio Offset managing director Tom Philby. "We are also protecting our press by preventing calcium build-up on the rollers."

Stylize Display Graphics has bought a Uniform Grenadier GFX and a Uniform Commander supplied by B&P Graphic Systems. The Haverhill-company will use the large-format printers to produce indoor and outdoor graphics.

Mediatoolbox has released an online digital server to interface with Pelagon's Webstore online products and Xeikon's X-800 front end. The application allows any X-800 user to connect directly to Pelagon's Webstore software.

IBM has added new features to its Infoprint 4100 continuous forms printers. The options include enhanced productivity tracking, additional finishing capabilities and forms identification, which can verify that the correct form is loaded.

Thanet Press has gained FSC accreditation, assuring all of its customers that paper used comes from well-managed woodland. The company has already achieved ISO 14001, 9001 and 19001 accreditations.

Archant has appointed Philip Graf as a non-executive director. He was previously Trinity Mirror chief executive. He is currently Ofcom deputy chairman.
