Monday night showed just how rewarding print can be

There are times when, for all the right reasons, and in spite of some telling evidence to the contrary, things seem to be pretty good, actually, and Monday's PrintWeek Awards was the perfect example.

I’d like to say it was thanks to the hard work and commitment of our Awards team and the judges, the sparkling wit of our presenter Jimmy Carr and, of course, the generosity of our sponsors.

Equally, the importance of the peerless value of winning a PrintWeek Award thanks to the pride and effort taken by our 24 category winners and the commended companies and finalists in assembling and submitting their award entries can’t be underplayed.

However, in truth while all of the above played pivotal roles in the success of the event, the real glory rests with the industry at large and specifically the 1,000 smiling faces that made the awards so special on the night. And my heartfelt thanks go to everyone that supported this year’s PrintWeek Awards.

Despite the well documented challenges facing the sector, the sight of so many people putting those to one side for a few hours to jointly celebrate everything that is great about the UK print industry - its passion, its pride, its prowess and, most importantly its people - really was something special.

It’s all too easy to forget that there are hundreds of fantastic businesses in our industry, far more than we could ever fit on even the Grosvenor’s stage. I just wish we could find a way to drill that untapped reserve of knowledge and experience for the greater good of the industry. That really would be something to celebrate.
