Vertis lays off 14 at Leicester

Vertis has made redundancies at its Leicester division, citing market forces.

A total of 14 staff have been laid off due to the mothballing of its 8pp inline web press.

A consultation period with Amicus GPMS has started, which is expected to be concluded at the end of this month.

"Overcapacity in the market place is one of the reasons for this move," said Vertis Leicester managing director Richard Husband. "It is also a move in line with customer demands."

He added that resources were better deployed by creating a fourth shift on its remaining presses.

"This year has been challenging but higher volumes are likely to come through in the third and fourth quarters," said Husband.

Vertis Leicester has two sites in Wigston and Bardon employing 291 staff.
