Overmatter: Segway Solutions

Visitors to the recent Drupa print expo in Dusseldorf may well have noticed staff at the Messe exhibition centre buzzing around on snazzy Segway devices – an entirely practical option for getting about when there is 304,800sqm of internal space, and 261,800sqm of external area to get around.

As Overmatter knows, it’s all-too-easy to find oneself in the far corner of CCD Süd yet needing to be in Hall 8b in three minutes. Some sort of rocket pack would be the ideal solution.

Meanwhile, back on the small island, we hear one print boss has his eye on a Segway for getting around the factory. Overmatter spotted Pensord operations director Karl Gater trying one out for size – on rather more rugged terrain than the Pensord press hall – at a recent event.

Gater, we learn, already has an uncanny ability to appear alongside unsuspecting colleagues without warning, earning him the nickname ‘Darth Gater’. Now he has his sights set on a company Segway to glide silently around Pensord’s 4,650sqm site, but hopefully with less mishaps than on this cone-crushing test drive.
