On:Demand spends 500,000 on B2 move

On:Demand Print Services has spent 500,000 on a move into B2 printing after customer demand for the service.

The Northampton-based business has bought a Screen PlateRite 2055Vi-S platesetter from Apex Digital Graphics, and a second-hand Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 five-colour press from second-hand machinery dealer Central Graphic Machinery.

The new machines have already had an impact on productivity and managing director Shane Holdcroft has predicted a 40-50% increase on its £1m turnover.

He said: "Production runs that we were already handling were getting longer and existing customers were talking about more work that they could give us if we moved up to a larger format.

"Following installation of the B2 press the amount of estimates that we were producing doubled over night. We moved to double-day shift and are already looking at the potential for full 24-hour production."

A knock-on effect of the investment has seen four new staff employed by the company, one in pre-press, one in print and two in the finishing department, taking the company's total to nine.

Now in its eighth year, On:Demand produces flyers, leaflets, brochures, posters and stationery items for clients in the Northampton area and across the UK.
