The Smart collator is aimed at point-of-sale applications where collated sets are required featuring different types and sizes of items according to each individual store’s requirements.
“In other words the set patterns follow store specific data meaning batches of sets for each store can be different or at its most extreme, each collated set can be different to the next,” explained Col-Tec managing director Paul Bailey.
“It is quite mesmerising in full flow as the feeders are switching on/off and the conveyor stop/starting with no apparent rhythm as associated with normal collating!”
A data sheet link from the customer’s systems determines which items are picked, or not.
Bailey said the formats and substrates were “potentially unlimited” within the parameters of its operation.
Items could be as large as 152.4x101.6cm (60x40in) and down to A5 format or smaller, including thick boards, lightweight items, and shaped or folded pieces.
The Smart collator can be combined with an array of partner products for additional options such as wrapping, shrinking tunnels, labelling and boxing.
“We have another line to be built in the next few months where all this additional equipment is being added in partnership with Friedheim International,” Bailey added.
The open house will take place at Col-Tec’s facility in New Milton, Hampshire on 12, 13 and 16 June.
The manufacturer – which exports its equipment to customers all over the world – was profiled in Printweek’s Best of British spot in 2019.
Bailey’s father Mike was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list. He was presented with the award by Princess Anne at a ceremony held at Windsor Castle in April.
