Johnston Press denies Yorkshire Post print move

Newspaper publisher Johnston Press has denied claims that it is planning to move the printing of the Yorkshire Post out of Leeds to Sunderland.

The regional newspaper is currently printed in the same building in which its editorial team is based. However, speculation emerged over the weekend that printing could move to Sunderland, where the Sunderland Echo title is currently printed.

Rumours began in light of plans to move the printing of the Financial Times from Leeds to News International's Knowsley facility next month.

However, David Crow, divisional managing director of printing at Johnston Press, told PrintWeek: "[Moving the Yorkshire Post] is all just rumour. We have advised staff about the Financial Times and have said that we will look at how it affects printing at Leeds. But I certainly don't know where Sunderland came from, there is no substance to that."

Initially, an internal email was leaked to the website Holdthefrontpage.co.uk stating that the company was looking to "replace the FT with other external work". It said that if a new contract wasn't found "we will need to review the existing structure within Leeds Web".
