Label Makers halves ink mixing time with Sun Chemical system

Bradford-based printer Label Makers has cut ink mixing times by 50% by investing in the UK's first Solaris Colorsat system from Sun Chemical.

The ink mixing and dispensing system is designed to allow high-batch frequency users to accurately mix UV-curing, water-based flexo, screen and gravure inks at the touch of a button.

The 60-staff print firm installed the kit with Solaris Colorsat's Windows-based ink management software, which has helped halve the ink mixing time when delivering customer-specified colour formulations.

Label Makers managing director David Webster said the Solaris Colorsat has "eradicated the inconvenience of both storing and searching for the mixed inks".

Webster added the £6m-turnover firm's previous ink mixing method was "extremely time consuming", requiring manual weighing and mixing of 5kg ink tubs at a time.

The new system automatically retrieves base inks directly through pipes from the main ink reservoirs, mixes the required colours, then dispenses the pantone colours into tubs ready for the press.

Webster added that the system was "a cleaner, more efficient and highly accurate way of mixing the exact colour specifications we require".
