The Norwich magazine printer has entered a three-month consultation process with staff and the GPMU over the cuts, which are likely to be in semi-skilled areas. It also plans to change the terms and conditions of the staff that will remain.
The firm is believed to employ around 330 staff, meaning that the latest redundancies equate to over a sixth of its current workforce. It also cut 76 jobs in April, predominantly in its bindery, so it has shed around a third of its staff this year.
Managing director Charles Jarrold said: We are operating in tough markets and do not expect it to get easier over the next year. We have carried out a full review of the business over the last three months and need to continue to become more efficient to succeed in todays marketplace.
We naturally regret that we have to propose these job losses and changes to the terms and conditions of the rest of the workforce, but we are confident that this is the right direction for a long-term secure future for Jarrold Printing.
Gary Iceton, the former chairman of book printer Clays, has headed up Jarrold Printings operational review.
