QuadTech is to show live demonstrations of its automated control systems and auxiliary press controls for register and colour on display at Ipex. The products provide unique advantages to web printers by their integration through the Icon platform, and will be on view on the QuadTech stand throughout the exhibition.

Duplo has said that visitors to www.duplo.moonpig.com will have the chance to design their own personalised greeting cards, prior to witnessing their production on its stand at Ipex. The two firms are teaming up for the duration of the exhibition to demonstrate the range of opportunities accessible through a JDF workflow.

Former colleagues of the printing ink consultant, the late Chris Williams, attended the London College of Communication to see his widow Jennie present the first bursary dedicated to his memory. The first winner is 21-year-old John Tolhurst. Committee members of the former Kent branch committee of the IP3 liaised with the college to present 500 to the most outstanding student for each of three years.

Xinet has announced a new uploading tool and upgrade to its Xinet WebNative asset management programme used by companies such as St Ives, Sotheby's and Wyndeham Press. Uploader is a standalone application that allows the transmission of artwork and photography.

Technoprint staff, friends and customers attended a dinner to mark the completion of apprenticeships and retirement of a staff member. Maureen Bray retired from Technoprint, having worked for Butterworth and Pilkington from 1956 till 2000, when it was transferred to Technoprint. The four pre-press and print apprentices also received their City & Guilds and Advanced apprenticeship certificates.

Harry Broadley & Sons has bought a used automated Komori Lithrone 528. The press, which replaces an existing Lithrone 526 at the Goole printers, has been refurbished and installed by DDJ Graphic Machinery. The firm chose the press due to requirements for higher levels of productivity, together with a reduction in waste and enhanced inking performance.
