The factory will be built on 4.1 acres of land and will double CCLs existing factory space to 6,100m2 by the end of the year. The first dig on the site was overseen by CCL president Stu Lang and the mayor of Wakefield, councillor David Atkinson.
The lure of the M62 access routes and the chance for a custom-built packaging plant proved impossible to resist.
Machinery will move into the new site on 1 October this year and we expect full production there to begin this time next year, said CCL Label project manager David Dawson.
The firm employs 106 people working to produce products for the personal care, household cleaners, beverage, food and pharmaceutical markets.
The Leeds operation was bought by CCL from Jarvis Porter in 2002.
