The firm hasnt yet decided on the model of press, but the site currently uses Cerutti gravure presses.
The new press will be 1.2m wide, with 10 colours and inline lamination.
The Salterbeck plant employs 450 staff and focuses mainly on the confectionery and biscuit sectors, said marketing manager Kath Atkinson.
The site is one of seven Lawson Mardon UK food packaging plants. It also has tobacco packaging plants.
Lawson Mardon is part of global consumer packaging group Alcan.
Site director Alan Graham said: "It is our intention to remain the number one packaging supplier in Europe."
