Best Cover shuts London plant

Coatings specialist Best Cover UV closed its London plant today, making three of its staff redundant.

The move comes three months after the Leeds-headquartered company closed its Manchester facility.

According to Best Cover managing director Darren Crake, the machinery from the London plant will be moved to its Bristol facility.

He said: "We were not able to diversify our London plant because of a tie-in with [fellow finisher] Olro. Moving the kit to Bristol, where there is more scope to expand what we offer, is the best thing for us.

"There isn't really enough work around at the moment. We have seen a 35% drop in decorative work and that is all that we do at the Romford site. In hindsight, this is a move we could have done 12 months ago."

Best Cover has two remaining plants situated in Leeds and Bristol.

Crake said he intends to concentrate on these, adding that they gave the company a base in the North and in the South of the country.

Best Cover closed its former Celloglas Manchester site in June just three months after buying it out of administration from administrator MCR.
