Best Cover sold out of administration to previous owners

Coatings specialist Best Cover UV has gone into administration and been sold back to the previous owner.

Andrew Poxon and John Titley of Leonard Curtis were appointed as administrators of Best Cover UV, the Leeds facility, and Bestcover (Bristol) on 26 March 2010.

The assets and goodwill of both companies have been sold to Best Cover UK, which holds Darren Crake, April Crake, Philip Lister and Noeleen Smith as directors.

Darren Crake was a director at Best Cover (Bristol) and Best Cover UV, while April Crake was a director at Best Cover UV.

Crake said that he did not wish to comment at this point in time, but confirmed that Best Cover UK had purchased the businesses and added that "trading would not be affected at either location".

Leonard Curtis was also not available for comment at this time.

Best Cover has had a tumultuous two years, after early 2008 brought huge growth for the company. When Celloglas went into administration it bought the Manchester and Bristol sites, but the Manchester site closed soon afterwards.

In August last year its London plant also closed down, and its main Heidelberg machine was moved to Bristol.

The administration has come as a shock to many local printers and finishers as well as rival coating companies.

Nigel Anderson, managing director at Alchemy Coatings, said he called Leonard Curtis today (6 April 2010) to enquire about purchasing the business and was shocked to find that it had already been sold.

Another local finisher, who was surprised to find that the company had gone into administration, told PrintWeek that he would have been interested in purchasing the company if he had been approached.
