Dalim turns on to 'realistic' soft-proofing with Virtual Library tool

Dalim Software has used a 'page-turning technology' style normally seen in online editions of magazines for its new real-time soft-proofing program for magazines and catalogues, Virtual Library

Dalim said the tool, which is an optional add-on to its PrintTempo and Mistral products, presents publishers with a "virtual representation" of a magazine for approval.

Changes made to magazine content linked to Mistral, such as text, pictures and adverts, appear in real-time.

The library allows users to dynamically link content and embed links, with scope for the software to be used to create online editions of magazines and catalogues.

Dalim head of international marketing Bertin Sorgenfrey told printweek.com that the Virtual Library, which uses OpenGl technology, makes the proofing process "extremely efficient".

"With the software linked to the production server, everything works in real-time, when an advert, a picture or text is changed, you see it immediately."

The developer has tied with paper manufacturer UPM so customers can use Virtual Library to see the realistic effect of UPM's different paper grades, including the levels of whiteness, see-through and opacity.

Dalim will also be showcasing the latest version of its Macintosh OS X-based proofing software, Dialogue.

The latest edition features text extraction and the ability to highlight text when viewing a proof on a monitor.

The Dalim Virtual Library and Dalim Dialogue will be available from June 2008. Drupa takes place from 29 May to 11 June in Düsseldorf.
