Crescent spend to fuel growth

Crescent Press has invested in new Heidelberg and Technotrans equipment as it gears up for its imminent move to new premises.

The Birmingham-based firm's managing director Andy Matthews was at Ipex to finalise a deal for a Polar 92X and a TH Stahlfolder with gluer attachment from Heidelberg in Hall 8. The investments will beef up Crescent's postpress offer as it moves into a new site next month. The company will also take delivery of a refurbished Heidelberg Speedmaster SM7410P from Germany.

"We are moving to take advantage of long perfector technology and this replacement for our sixcolour B2 press will give us a 50% boost in capacity," said Matthews.

"The cost of moving equipment and the downtime involved concentrates the mind so we have decided that in addition, we will beef up our finishing options."

Matthews said Crescent will be well placed to service existing and new print management customers as the UK recovery progresses.

In addition, Crescent has bought Technotrans' (6/C561) water-cooled peripherals on the new Speedmaster. The system is designed to reduce the firm's energy bills.
