Papal print

The Pope is coming to town this week, and it's good to see that his Holiness is doing his bit to generate some print while he's here.

Check out the special online store for luxe accompanying programme (£10), various t-shirts, mugs, holy cards and other paraphernalia. Even papal bunting! And the Catholic Church has also embraced personalised printing, too, with the option for church-specific mugs and t-shirts (minimum order is 10, though). Disappointingly, no tea towels. At the time of writing I've been unable to find out who the chosen printers are, but I'm hoping it's not all coming from China in a container.

For those looking for something a bit edgier, head for the Catholics With Attitude website for its range of funky clothing items. And in the interests of religious balance I should point out that the National Secular Society also has a range of 'Pope Nope' t-shirts.

I'm sure I saw a reference to a cardboard cut-out of the Pope in one of the many articles trailing his visit, and while that item is not available in the official shop I discovered that just such a thing can be purchased from Star Stills, which has a life-size cardboard cut-out of Benedict XVI in its range. A snip at £29.99 and delivered in 48 hours, so still time to purchase before the Papal circus rolls into town. I'm thinking there would be at least 30 quid's worth of fun to be had with one of those...

Almost as much fun as Barney and I had concocting potential headlines for the Pope's trip to Twickenham on Friday. How about 'Pope pinpointed perambulating in Popemobile along Popes Grove'?  Beat that if you can.

PS. Meanwhile, the other momentous happening this week is the commencement of my 'summer' holiday, so this is me signing out for the next fortnight. Toodle-pip.
