Print management and outsourcing expert Tony Massey has joined APS Group in a new executive role.

Massey has spent more than 25 years working in what has now become marketing services, in a range of senior positions.

He was sales director at Alistair McIntosh in the mid-1990s and went on to work at Williams Lea after it acquired the AliMac business in 2002. He subsequently spent a decade at HH Global, where he was chief sales and marketing officer, prior to joining US-headquartered InnerWorkings in 2015 as vice president of international business development.

HH Global acquired InnerWorkings in July 2020, with the deal greenlighted in September.

Massey left InnerWorkings last October and took up his new role at £167m-turnover APS at the beginning of the month.

In his new position as executive director at APS Massey will work alongside fellow executive director John Holmes – who has worked at the business for more than a decade – to head up group-wide business development and marketing, reporting to APS managing director Nick Snelson.

Snelson commented: “In our 60th anniversary year despite Covid, the business has remained resilient during the last 12 months. Hiring someone of Tony’s calibre will only accelerate the growth of the group as we build upon a series of successful wins in 2020.”

Massey said he was excited about the opportunities at APS.

“I’m really excited to be joining APS, it’s a dynamic business that has successfully expanded into Europe and the US as well as diversifying into agency, digital and retail services, to complement its print, data and fulfilment offerings. The solid foundations that have been set over recent years give us a great platform for expansion and I’m really looking forward to being part of this future success,” adds Massey.

Cheshire-headquartered APS Group set up the £200m PrintMarketplace online print buying platform for the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) last year.

It is also one of six suppliers appointed to a new CCS print management contract.

APS has also recently invested in a new purpose-built 10,220sqm secure communications facility at Preston Brook near Runcorn. This includes an inbound and outbound centre for secure print, plastic card personalisation, and is a nationwide delivery and fulfilment centre.
