Film and finishing specialists team up on lamination offering

Three specialists across film and finishing have teamed up to offer a free lamination film starter pack with Foliant laminators.

Thermal lamination film maker KDX is working with kit supplier Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS) and Graphic Arts Supplies to share their technical knowledge.

All new IFS-supplied Foliant laminators will come with the starter pack, giving a taster of KDX lamination films including gloss, matt, anti-scuff, silky matt and Allstick digital thermal films.

IFS sells between 20 and 25 Foliant laminators a year, ranging from entry-level B2 machines for about £10,000 to B1 models costing up to £60,000.

“And sales are increasing year-on-year,” said IFS managing director Bryan Godwyn. “When people buy laminators they often do so to bring the service in-house, so they will have a level of expertise.

“But lamination has become so complicated - not just matt and gloss but anti-scratch, soft-touch and all sorts of finishes. Printers are not so much confused, but sometimes in need of technical support.”

The recently launched 27-micron Allstick allows customers to print and laminate immediately and complete further finishing processes on the fly - not always possible with other digital films.

This partnership approach gives new IFS Foliant customers access to KDX’s thermal lamination films, supplied by either IFS or Graphic Arts Supplies.

Godwyn added: “We have spent 12 months fully evaluating the KDX range ensuring it enables printers to get the best results from our Foliant lamination equipment.

“The starter pack gives customers the freedom to try out many different finishes supported by a training programme with our technical specialists.”

Graphic Arts Supplies is a family-run business and has been a supplier to the print trade for almost 50 years, the past 10 supplying thermal laminating film.

Director Lee Murphy explained how the relationship with KDX developed: “Brexit has brought us and KDX closer together due to KDX’s support through a tricky period for the industry.”
