Carbon Quota has launched the CarbonQuota Essentials calculator, a new Software as a Service (SaaS) product, at Fespa Global Print Expo in Munich.

The business said that through machine learning and full integration with a variety of third-party software providers, the tool produces an automatic calculation of the carbon footprint of print and packaging products, which is then communicated to the customer through quotations or printer reports.

CarbonQuota co-founder Dominic Harris said: “CarbonQuota Essentials has changed the carbon footprinting industry, due to the lack of implementation period, and by being able to produce footprints that are consistent and exceed international standards, virtually instantaneously.

“In addition to futureproofing the print and packaging sectors’ environmental reporting, this product ensures compliance with all current and future UK, EU, and international regulations.”

CarbonQuota channel partner manager Freddie Ward told Printweek: “The CarbonQuota Essentials calculator is designed to be as easy to use as possible. As we are integrated into the software providers, we make use of the high-quality data already held within these platforms that was inputted by the user.

“This means that there are no additional steps required by the end user to receive the high-quality carbon footprints.

“Additionally, the user guides provided with the module, mean that all end users are equipped to fully understand their carbon footprint values and talk about carbon with confidence.

“The product’s benefits are to supply customers with accurate carbon footprints, enable them to make eco decisions around what products to use, and provide added USP to their business.”

Ward said demand for carbon footprinting “is increasing at an exponential rate worldwide”, as many printers and packaging manufacturers are already being asked what the environmental impact of their products is from their customers, so the business is expecting to see high take up rates.

CarbonQuota Essentials is launching with software providers including Tharstern, PrintIQ, Element, and Optimus, but Carbon Quota said it is in conversations with many more MIS providers.

It is available to sign up to via an online process for some of the above MIS providers as of Tuesday (23 May) and will be going live “very shortly” for the other platforms, but end users can register their interest now. The company is exhibiting at stand A3-A66 at Fespa.

The business said CarbonQuota Essentials is “the lowest cost carbon footprinting tool in any industry” and is “a quarter of the cost of the next cheapest competitor”, but with no decrease in quality and increased ease of use.
