YMP to run Apprentice-style event to boost business skills

Young Managing Printers (YMP) is staging a national conference this weekend with a mock-up of the television programme The Apprentice.

The 73rd YMP conference will be held at The Copthorne Hotel, Cardiff, where it will provide a two-day training course themed around the importance of teamwork. Attendees will form teams to compete on a series of tasks, with YMP deciding who will be "hired or fired".

Andrew Tait, YMP chairman, said: “It was harder to organise the event this year because of the recession but we're sure it will prove to be another success. We are trying to tackle the problems in the industry at the moment and ensure top training is provided.

"This particular national conference aims to help young managers learn how to be more effective at creating results through teamwork. Besides the serious side of training and development and YMP’s Business Awards ceremony, there is an opportunity for people to let their hair down and enjoy live entertainment and a fancy dress dinner.”

A 1970s-themed fancy dress party will break the ice on Friday evening, followed by a full day of training overseen by training consultancy CCCS Events.

Some 30 people are expected to attend the event which is supported by the BPIF.
