The Grimsby-based company is taking delivery of a four-colour MAN Roland 704 B1 perfecting press in a two-back-two set-up to replace an old 702.
"We wanted more firepower on two-colour work such as timetables, leaflets and government department jobs," said production director
Dan Dean. "The kit does 12,000 sheets an hour but a lot of work is in short runs. Quick changeover is as important as printing speed because we do a huge amount of sections."
A full Baumann paper-handling system from MAN Roland has been installed around an existing 137 Polar guillotine and has improved cutting productivity by up to 60%, said Dean. "Our guillotine operator cuts very fast with a smile on his face," he added.
The configuration includes a pile elevator, auto-jogger, air tables and a multistacker for downloading cut work.
Dean said that as well as increased output, the kit's automation had helped to reduce health and safety concerns over manual handling of large paper volumes.
