Superior invests 2m in kit & facilities to expand services

Superior Creative has expanded on the details of its 2m investment programme that will create 10 new jobs and allow the company to offer the "complete solution for all marketing requirements".

The Melksham, Wiltshire-based business is building a two-storey extension to its main building that will house a purpose-built design and digital studio, at the heart of which will be a new Inca Onset S20 wide-format printer and a Kodak NexPress SE2500.

The company, which was established in 1976, currently employs 130 staff and expects the expansion to enable it to cater to a broader range
of clients.

Superior’s investment programme also comprises a Buhrs BB300 inserting machine and a Muller Martini Prima stitching line, which bolster the company’s direct mail operation.

According to Richard Blueitt, operations director at Superior Creative, the Inca Onset S40 offers improved productivity on the Inca Spyder it replaces and will cater for the large volume of retail work it carries out for clients such as Heineken.

He said: "Around 90% of the work we will produce on the Inca will be fluted board, but the ability to print onto substrates like paper is a real bonus when required.

"The added capacity of the S40 also gives us space to grow. We were previously at capacity with our Inca Spyder machine, but that is no longer a problem. We are working on some new projects and the new Onset can cater for those."

The two-storey extension to Superior’s main building, which will also house administration and clerical personnel on its first floor, will be completed early next year.

Its new stitching, folding and polywrapping equipment has been installed at its direct mail site, which is 100 yards from its main premises.

Ian O’Connor, managing director at Superior, said: "We can now supply a complete solution for all marketing requirements and it is the range and depth of our service offering that has led to a lot of new business being generated, allowing us to grow our business and invest even further."

The company, which aims to achieve a £15m turnover this year, has a client base that includes John Lewis, Booker Wholesale, Noble Foods and Premier Retail Group. It also intends to invest in a new die-cutter machine early next year.
