Roland DG has had a busy start to Fespa, presenting three new machines and celebrating its launch to market of the recently-acquired textured print specialist Dimense (now DG Dimense).

Making their Fespa debuts are the recently-released high-gamut budget printer for 3D substrates, the VersaStudio MO-240, the VersaStudio BY-20 direct-to-film (DTF) printer, also released earlier in the year, and the VersaObject COi 640/300 flatbed UV presses.

Capable of printing on objects up to 204mm high, or cylindrical  objects up to 121mm in diameter with the optional rotary axis add-on, the MO-240 can reach speeds of 2.07 sqm/hr and can add a number of gloss and matt finish effects. The BY-20 prints on film at up to 1,440dpi, at widths of 150-515mm.

The COi 640 and 300 flatbeds will be made commercially available within 30 days of Fespa 2024. Able to accommodate objects up to 242mm in height or 100 kg/sqm in weight, it can also print on gently curved or uneven surfaces.

Recent acquisition DG Dimense – bought by Roland DG in August 2023 – has also been celebrated at this year’s show following Roland DG’s launch of Dimense products to its global sales network in January.

Dimense’s machinery – a specialised 1.6m printer with calender unit – achieves textured results by shaping the relief of the substrate with structures up to 1.5mm thick, without having to print multiple layers of ink. It can achieve up to 10 sqm/hr.

Speaking at Roland DG’s Wednesday press conference, DG Dimense sales and marketing director Arkadij Bliumin said: “Six months ago, we joined forces to improve the technologies [Dimense] had invented – and already we can tell that we have accelerated progress and achieved really great results.

“Beforehand, we only had one showroom, in Lithuania: [the deal] has tremendously increased the accessibility of our technology.”

DG Dimense has also manufactured PVC-free ‘Ecodeco’ substrates for the decor market since 2015.

Roland DG Central Europe’s director of business development and product management, Paul Willems, said: “We are in a very strong position in terms of our applications and markets, and DG Dimense’s team joining the Roland DG family has really launched us into a new market as well.

“We are really gaining momentum in the marketplace, and our results are showing exactly the way our market is evolving – but we are not gong to rest on our laurels.”
