Printers have to offer more than just print, Sefas claims

Document production software specialist Sefas has said that printers dealing with blue-chip companies can no longer exist as just printers.

Managing director Giles Hill has published a white paper entitled Are you Printing Away Profits?, which warns company owners to take action on simple cost-cutting measures in their print costs. The paper covers office printing, as well as mailing spend.

In the white paper, Hill claims that businesses should be looking to become more efficient in their printing and "add value by taking out costs". These companies will look to alternative means for their communications beyond print.

He said: "Increasingly, we don't consider print service providers as such, we call them Business Process Outsourcing providers. You have to be able to offer more than just print.

"It isn't just about a transaction as it was; it is about taking that information, refining it and improving it. Those that realise there is now a new medium to take it to, those guys will thrive."

Hill also said he thought around 50% of companies still wanted paper-based communication from suppliers, despite a rise in email communication.
