New Jarrold loses Loaded to St Ives

By IPC is moving lads monthly Loaded from New Jarrold Printing to St Ives Plymouth.

Loaded was the only IPC title printed at New Jarrold, but the loss of the 220,000-plus run glossy will still be a blow to the business.

The publisher completed a review of its Southbank and Specialist titles in February, and IPC manufacturing director Jasper Scott said the switch formed part of its supply chain rationalisation: "It was mainly a question of the consolidation of our print suppliers, and a result of our new deal with St Ives."

"It's a disappointment," said NJP managing director Bob Pitts. "But Jasper explained that it was nothing to do with service or quality. We would have liked to keep IPC in our stable we're still talking to them about other projects and hope we'll get back in the door," he added.

St Ives web division managing director David Emeny said he was "absolutely delighted" to win the title. "It fits very well into the portfolio that we produce for IPC," he added. The Plymouth plant takes over the title next month. The site will also be home to the UK's first Kolbus/Ferag  Publica-Rollstream high-speed perfect binding line, a development that Scott is watching with keen interest.

"It's one of the most exciting projects going on at the moment," he said. "It looked fantastic at Drupa and I'm fascinated to see how it performs in a live environment."

Meanwhile, NJP is still ironing out the final legal details before setting a "mobilisation date" for construction of its new factory at Wymondham. It  is likely that installation of its first new KBA 64pp web will begin in January. "The plan now makes more sense as it is less disruptive and the installation will happen during softer periods," Pitts said. "It's better to under-promise and over deliver."
