UPM-Kymmene has announced changes to the product names for its graphic fine papers and is also set to launch a new grade next year.
Marketing director for graphic papers, David Mackie, said: "We are trying to build the identity of UPM-Kymmene as a company, and some of the brand names were a little old-fashioned."
From 1 January 2002, UPM Art and nopaCoat will be renamed UPM Finesse. UPM Fineset, UPM Finesat, nopaSet and nopaSat will now come under the name of UPM Fine.
"We hope that by incorporating the UPM name in the range the profile of the products will be raised," Mackie said.
A new range of coated woodfree papers will be produced at the companys Kymi paper mill in Finland, which has been the subject of a 154m project investment involving a rebuild of its PM8 machine (PrintWeek, 21 September).
"We believe this new launch will be right for the market," said Mackie.
The new range will consist of three grades of UPM Finesse 720, 520 and 220.
At the same time UPM-Kymmene is introducing a numeric labelling system for its graphic fine papers range.
There are four in the UPM Finesse series; 700 for gloss, 500 for premium silk, 300 for silk and 200 for matt. For UPM Fine there is the 100 series for uncoated.
The numbers signify the quality level.
