Former KBA UK managing director Kelvin Lowe has revealed the first products to be available through his new venture, Press Systems.
Lowe, who left KBA at the end of last year, will sell FMC's automated guided vehicles for storing paper reels, and will also be working with Buhrs-Zaandam and its UK agent, Computermail.
"I wanted to get into materials handling, which you see a lot of at national newspapers but not so much at commercial printers, regional newspapers and magazine houses" said Lowe.
"But these people are saying that automation of reel handling is part of their agenda for the future."
Buhrs-Zaandam's poly-wrapping kit is best known in the mailing sector, but the firm is building a new product specifically aimed at the newspaper market in terms of format, speed and durability. "Sunday newspapers in particular are under pressure from supermarkets to bag their products," explained Lowe. "Again it's a big product to get involved with - I intend to use my reputation and knowledge of webs to build products around it."
