Loughborough uni brings PUR inhouse

Loughborough University’s design & print services department has installed a DigiBook 150 PUR binder from Morgana to improve the quality and flexibility of its finished products and to bring additional work in-house.

Previously it was outsourcing distance-learning materials that could be up to 350pp and needed PUR binding for robustness.

“We are finishing work that we could never have handled on our hotmelt binder,” said print services manager Mark Ramsay. “The DigiBook 150 gives us more control and a cost saving.”

Further advantages of the entry-level machine include the ability to handle a wider range of materials and formats for the univesity's arts and design students' final coursework.

“Our creative arts students have to produce physical coursework and are always looking at creative ways to print and finish,” said Ramsay.  “The DigiBook 150 enables us to finish jobs with more and fewer pages and to include technical stocks. For instance they can bind a job with a 350gsm mirror board next to a 70gsm paper.”

Ramsay added that the uptake of PUR binding had meant the firm was considering upgrading to a faster machine in the next financial year.
