Killer app: Forces to get morale mailer from Card Town

Online greetings card retailer Card Town has rallied messages of support for the troops in Afghanistan to encourage a little Christmas cheer at the barracks.

What did the job entail?

Card Town has set up a Facebook page encouraging well wishers to post their messages to be included in a 965x686mm greetings card and sent to the 9,000 servicemen and women stationed in Afghanistan.

The company has pledged to donate 25p to charity Help for Heroes for each message received.

How was it produced?
The Card Town team produced the card at its Warwick factory on 240gsm satin photo paper. Four pages of imagery were printed using a Canon iPF8300 using Canon inks. These were then spray-mounted to foam board to give the card strength.

Card Town also hand made an envelope to send the card, which was embellished to resemble a regular envelope including a hand-written address on the front.

What challenges were overcome?
James Morgan, online manager for Cewe Colour, Card Town’s parent company, said: "Nothing we were doing was standard so every process was incredibly manual and required lots of tweaking and adjustments before each element was perfect."

What was the feedback?
Morgan said: "We are all delighted with the outcome, and hopefully we will get some positive feedback when the troops in Afghanistan receive it at Christmas."

At the time of going to press, the Facebook page had more than 600 comments and 1,840 likes from those wishing to send support to the forces.
