The scheme targets financial services and fundraising bodies that are non-VAT registered. According to business development manager, Ed Bassett, promotional printing is an area that can exploit this tax loophole.
If a firm buys a service that has VAT on it they normally cannot claim it back. But that changes if you are using it for advertising, promotional or direct mailing purposes, he added.
Keywords claimed that the loophole means that it can provide a a 17.5% saving off the bottom line.
Last January, Keywords Direct merged with Guilford-based Optionsprint. The firm operates within FT Holdings, which also owns Forms Technology (PrintWeek, 10 January, 2003).
