FT Solutions cuts outsourcing to fuel growth

Print services firm FT Solutions Group has invested in its second Canon imagePress in less than a year as it looks to bring outsourced work in house.

The firm has acquired a Canon imagePress C6010S to add to the £1m investment it made last autumn on a Canon imagePress C7010VPS and Océ VarioPrint 6160 and an Océ VarioStream 7450 twin continuous feed print production system.

The Océ VarioStream was installed at the group’s Southampton-based direct marketing production facility, FT Mail Solutions while the Canon imagePress C7010VPS and Océ VarioPrint 6160 were housed at its expanding digital site in Hertford.

The Hertford-based FT Solutions capacity will now be boosted by the firm’s latest Canon acquisition in a continuing drive to bring outsourced work in-house to reduce costs and boost output.

According to the firm, output at the site has quadrupled again since last year’s investment.

Managing director Tom Gurd said the investments would help the group to benefit from changes in the marketplace in a challenging climate.

"Increasingly we are transferring more of the former outsourced work back on to these presses because they consistently produce high quality products.

"In the past, for every £1 we spent on our own printing, we were spending the same amount pushing work to outside contractors. Recently we have halved that amount, but with a second Canon imagePress C6010S we are confident of halving yet again the amount of printing we have to outsource."
