The GPMU is considering an escalation of its bindery class two strike at ET Heron and claims to have received solid support for this weeks action (PrintWeek, 29 June).
Anglia branch secretary Vernon Robson said it was considering taking more action on the week beginning 16 July, with 24-hour or even 36-hour strikes a possibility.
Robson said the Essex magazine printer had made no moves to approach us about a settlement.
As PrintWeek went to press the GPMU was preparing to write to ET Heron informing it of its plans.
Robson said between 30 and 40 chapel members had manned a picket line from 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday (3 July), with about 30 present the following morning.
He said the union, like ET Heron, hoped common sense would prevail: Our claim for an extra 5 per week didnt include people in the chapel who didnt have to do extra work so that was sensible, but the company wasnt even prepared to talk about that.
ET Heron refused to comment on the dispute. It was unaware of the unions plans to escalate action when contacted by PrintWeek.
