ESP Colour splashes out 750,000 on post-press kit

ESP Colour has bought a new folder as part of an ongoing 750,000 spending spree that will see it eradicate post-press bottlenecks.

The Swindon-based company plans to put more than 100m printed sheets a year through the new Freidheim-supplied kit, an MBO K800 2/6 Super KTZ Combi

The B1 printer's new machine averages over 8,500 sections an hour and the company claims it has spearheaded a 40% increase in folding efficiency on section-based work.

Operations director Anthony Thirlby said: "It has proved very efficient in handling 16pp A4 printed sections operations.

"The MBO cost £100,000 and was part of £750,000 spent on post-press gear over the past 18 months. We will continue to invest to meet future growth demands."

The rest of the money went on more gear, the most expensive item being a £300,000 Heidelberg ST450 stitchliner. The company also bought a five-colour B1 perfector.

ESP Colour employs around 70 staff and makes £12m turnover from folded leaflets, saddlestitch jobs and perfect-bound books.
