ECRM is replacing all of its AIR 75 platesetters across Europe and the US with either TigerCat or WildCat systems, depending on the wishes of the customers.
We have to look after our users, said ECRM director of distribution Derek Sizer. We didnt think is was right for them to be using AIR 75s, so we decided to take the hit and offer upgrades. The AIR 75 was first unveiled at Drupa 95 but its introduction took a further three years.
Of the eight AIR 75s installed since its launch at Ipex 98, only two remain to be upgraded, one in the US and the one at Piggotts of Cambridge. The other UK installation, at Bridson & Horrox on the Isle of Man, has been changed over.
Weve had a good year for orders for the TigerCats and WildCats, said Sizer. So far weve already sold 30 units into Europe.
The decommissioned AIR 75s are being returned to the US where they are being dismantled for spares or else being scrapped.
