ECRM has announced further models in its CTP line-up and is adding extra workflow tools as it attempts to change the market perception of it as a box seller to a solutions provider.

President and CEO George Carlisle said: "Weve had tremendous success selling imagesetters, we want to transfer that success to platesetters. Our new focus is on solutions, not boxes.

"We need workflow, not just the box but the total solution.

The firms fresh focus includes the adoption of a new Adobe Extreme-based workflow from IP Tech, which joins the Harris MaxWorkFlow system which it took on for its Harlequin RIP customers last year.

Its CTP line-up includes a new violet version of its four-up TigerCat platesetter and two versions of the eight-up thermal DesertCat machine.

The Violet version of the TigerCat will ship in September to coincide with Agfa beginning shipments of the violet version of its Lithostar silver halide plate.

At 73,500 ($109,500) it is priced between the more expensive green FD-YAG laser and the cheaper red laser diode machine. Also new at the show is a free lifetime warranty on the lightsource in the red laser model. Commenting on the decision Carlisle said: "Its to give the lowest ownership cost.

Two versions of the DesertCat will be available the TigerCat 8 will image plates only and can handle 12 plates per hour while the TigerCat 88 will also image halftone proofing media and producs 10 plates per hour. At the moment it is working with the Kodak Approval Type 2 media, but will also be able to image Imation and DuPont media. Pricing will be around 121,000 for the DesertCat 8 and 134,000 for the DesertCat 88.
