"We needed a machine to help us fulfil our current order book more efficiently and give us the capacity to move into new markets," said managing director David Thorne.
The 300,000 Italian single-colour flexo machine, supplied by UK distributor GTS (Europe), replaces a 23-year-old Curioni.
The new machine can cope with board up to 2,800mm wide and is fitted with Extend-o-slot, which allows the handling of large two-piece boxes by electronically delaying the cutting back of slots, adding 800mm to the usual 1,200mm maximum board length.
The machine is controlled via an Easy Set touch-screen display unit, allowing the operator to input dimensions with adjustments then made electro-mechanically.
The 1.3m turnover firm, based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, went to see the Curioni in Italy. "The impressive visit convinced me it was the right machine for us," said Thorne.
