Book Printer of the Year: Boss Print

Last year’s highly commended entry turned a new leaf in 2018 with an outright category win. “Great attention to detail, with complex technical solutions to difficult issues resulting in beautiful books,” was the judges’ verdict.

Samples included creatively themed books, notebooks and a Scarfe cocktail menu with overfoil effects and lovely interactive touches such as postcard and bar bill – a potent tonic for a book sector under attack from cheaper imports and digital editions. And proof that the charm and value of home-produced, beautifully printed and superbly bound books remains undiminished.

Books on the 100 First Women, Aston Martin and Fraser Yachts caught the collective eye of the judges, as did The Kashi House project showing Sikh art. All agreed this sample was “outstanding”. The expert production team at the Croydon company had to perfectly replicate images and gold tints while every section was scrutinised on press.=

A Rising People from the Brian Burns Collection of Irish Art got a rise from the judges who praised “a really well put together entry” from the printer in Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland. It included the Humewood Book, Aston Martin DB32 Coupe Book and a book on the ceramic artist John Ffrench.
