Akar Sign opts for Gerber Solara Ion for UV flatbed production

New Delhi-based Akar Sign has installed a Gerber Solara Ion to keep pace demand for wide-format digital print.

"In today's world of advanced digital market techniques, it is important we stay ahead of the race by equipping ourselves with the latest in technology and delivering the highest quality product," said Akar founder Apurva Shah.

Running alongside the Solara Ion at Akar are four Vutek solvent printers, three HP water-based inkjets and two eco-solvent printers.

The Ion machine, which has a speed of 7sqm per hour, is can print onto glass, silk, tiles and wood for niche markets.

"It is a new technology and clients want to adopt it because of the high-quality work it produces," said Shah.

Established 25 years ago by Shah, Akar, whose clients include Vodafone, Airtel, Tata  DoCoMo, Idea and Pepsi, started as a signage firm before moving into printing, routing and LED signage.

It operates from a 2,000sqm unit in New Delhi and has branches in Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai and Gujarat.
