Q&A: Justin Battle, sales and marketing executive, Printroom Group

Justin is 46 and has been in print for 30 years after getting into the industry through a YTS placement. His hobbies are the gym, golf, F1, travel and he is a bit of a foodie – “eating not cooking!”

What is your nickname? 

I was called Monkey at school because well, I looked like a monkey. In the office it’s Jason which is great because I blame Jason for my print deadlines!

Why did you get into printing? 

The careers lady put me on a YTS and she told me there was loads of money in it!

What would be your dream job? 

Sky Sports presenter with Kirsty Gallacher

Who would play you in a movie about your life? 

Sean Connery or Roger Moore

What is your dream bit of kit? 

Chelsea tracksuit 

What would you most like to print? 

Well we are rebranding some cool restaurants and offices at present and that is really enjoyable. I really also enjoy working with charities and high-end brands 

What is your favourite film? 

Casablanca, as it’s my mum’s favourite

What is your favourite TV programme? 

I love Salvage Hunters and I am looking forward to Top Gear with Paddy McGuinness

Savoury

Who or what do you hate the most? 

I’m not a hater

Who do you admire most in the industry? 

Simon Lewington my MD for his work ethic, and Linda Hunt our sales director for her print knowledge

What is your favourite phrase or saying? 

There is no accounting for taste and Karma is a b****!

What is your favourite album? 

Thriller by Michael Jackson

What is your favourite book?

Simon has got me reading Shoe Dog by Phil Knight and I really enjoy Ian Fleming’s From Russia with Love

Cats

What is your greatest luxury in life? 

Trainers

What is the strangest job you’ve ever done? 

I did my one and only modelling job when I was 17 for silk scarves. It was awful

Who would you like to be stuck on a desert island with? 

Obviously Bear Grylls

What is your greatest ambition? 

To be happy!

What’s your greatest fear? 

Losing loved ones

Who or what makes you laugh? 

Ricky Gervais, Jim Carrey and Ashley Halligan our account manager. He is very good at taking the mickey out of me

What piece of kit would you like to see invented? 

Automated trainer whitener/cleaner

Most embarrassing moment? 

Too many and none for broadcast!

Where would you like to be right now? 

Camp Nou Barcelona, and Spain in general

What’s your worst fashion disaster? 

So many but age inappropriate trainers and leather jackets

Which superpower would you like to have? 

To hit the customers’ deadlines!

Where would you go if you could time-travel? 

The 1960s

What was your childhood obsession? 

Tap dancing! I was a dancer once, a very long time ago

Cheap print 

What was the best business deal that you’ve pulled off? 

I am working on it right now

What advice would you give to your teenage self? 

Don’t worry be happy and invest in Microsoft
