Q&A: Ben Manning, production director, Rapidity

Ben is slightly older than London-based Rapidity, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this month. Unsurprisingly given his family connections to the industry, he has also been “working in the print” since he left school.

Benhas two children aged seven and four and his hobbies involve “anything with an engine” or “simply watching Charlton lose on a Saturday afternoon!”

What is your nickname? Too offensive to publish I’m sure!

Why did you get into printing? It’s a hereditary illness that runs in the family. My granddad worked in printing and advertising all his life as did my dad

What is your dream bit of kit? The Peroni beer pump I’ve just had installed in our reception

What is your favourite TV programme? Breaking Bad

Who or what do you hate the most? Boris Johnson

Who do you admire most in the industry? All the staff at Rapidity, they are honest and loyal

What is your favourite album? Dangerous by Michael Jackson

What is your greatest luxury in life? Spending time with my family

Who would you like to be stuck on a desert island with? Jimmy Carr, Micky Flanagan and any-one who owns a yacht

What is your greatest ambition? To buy Charlton Athletic

What’s your greatest fear? Power cuts!

What piece of kit would you like to see invented? A cheap spot UV machine for digital print that works

Which celebrity would you like to get out of here? Why? Anyone with the surname Kardashian or Jenner. No reasons required

Where would you like to be right now? First tee on the Quinta Do Lago South, Portugal

What’s your worst fashion disaster? I have it every day!

Which superpower would you like? The ability to know when the Blackwall Tunnel is closed before I get there

Where would you go if you could time-travel? Back 10 years to remind myself how it feels to see Charlton win

What was your childhood obsession? Motorbikes, I was never allowed one though

What is the worst kind of print? Short-run black and white such as the Millwall matchday programme

What was the best business deal that you’ve pulled off? Buying our Océ Arizona 480XT at Fespa Cologne 2015. Great machine, great deal!
