Q&A: Amy Chambers, managing director, Label Apeel

This year marks a full decade in the printing industry for Amy. She joined Label Apeel in 2010 as sales manager, and quickly progressed up the ladder to managing director at the Leicester-based business, which she is justifiably proud about.

She is married with two young children and, if time allows when not working or looking after the family, she might be found studying or spending time with friends, or, on a really good day “watching sport and having the odd glass or two of fine wine”.

What is your favourite film?

Stand by Me

What is your favourite TV programme?

NCIS

What is your dream bit of kit?

An Aston Martin – I’m dreaming of course

What is your favourite album?

The Frozen soundtrack!

What is your greatest luxury in life?

With two young kids, a full night’s sleep and a lie-in

What’s your nickname?

Someone described me on LinkedIn as “the iron fist in a velvet glove”. So I guess it’d be that

Why did you get into printing?

Simple: because I’m passionate about print, colour and the science behind the industry.

What would be your dream job?

It might sound twee, but where I am right now is pretty good, thanks. I was drawn to Label Apeel because of its unconventional yet extremely customer- and quality-focused ethos. We’ve got a great bunch of talented people working for us, who are a pleasure to be around

What would you like to print?

I’d love to print more personal care labels. It’s been the same way ever since my days at Boots

Who or what do you hate the most?

Hate is a very strong word. It’s more that I get really bored and frustrated with the old boy’s outlook on the printing industry. It’s time that the industry embraced and listened to the next generation of printers. Who are the people to move everything forward and introduce the new methods and ways that will keep it relevant.

Who would you like to be stuck on a desert island with?

My husband and my children. Oh yes, and a nanny!

What is your greatest ambition?

In work, it would be to have the opportunity give younger managers and recent graduates a voice within the industry. I’ve said it before and I know I’ll say it again

Who or what makes you laugh?

My children. And, occasionally Stuart Kellock, owner of Label Apeel.

Where would you like to be right now?

In the new offices of Label Apeel having a cup of tea with all the boxes unpacked. Moving a printing company is no mean feat!

Which superpower would you like to have?

To add more hours into my day
