Stationers' to host debate on the future of print

Following the release of its report into the future of paper and print, The Stationers' and Newspaper Makers' Company is to host a debate on the challenges facing the print and paper industries resulting from the rise of digital technology.

The Are Print and Pixels Competitive or Complementary? autumn event, which will take place on Monday 9 November, will present a raft of reactions to the findings of the controversial report from industry leaders including Tom Whitwell from the Times Online, St Ives group technical director John Charnock, and Publishers Association chief executive Simon Juden.

The forum will be chaired by HH Pegg chairman Nick Steidl on behalf of The Stationers' and PrintWeek editor Darryl Danielli. Other speakers include Robert Latham of Paperlinx Europe, Will Oldham of UPM and Bertrand Lousteau of Sun Chemical.

"The graphic communications industry is in the midst of great change and faces many challenges, not least those driven by huge leaps in digital technology. This step change in technology is no less impactful than when Caxton brought the printing press to England is 1476," said Nigel Stapleton, Stationers' industry group chairman.

"We are experiencing dramatic change in the dissemination and availability of knowledge to a wider audience. However, a total shift to electronic media may not be as inevitable as the current pace of change suggests."

Places at the event are strictly limited. Tickets cost £30 each and are selling out fast. For more information and to reserve your place visit www.stationers.org or contact Helen Ashworth on 020 7246 0988.
