Stationers to debate environmental progress

The future of corporate social responsibility will be debated at a forum at The Stationers' and Newspaper Makers' Company on Monday.

In association with WWF-UK, the event will focus on the environmental issues that the print, paper and packaging industries are facing.

The debate will be chaired by journalist and broadcaster Peter Day and the keynote speaker is manager of the pulp and paper programme at WWF International, Harri Karjalainen.

Also on the panel are Glyn Davies, director of programmes WWF-UK; Francis Sullivan, adviser on environment HSBC; Robert Latham, sustainability director Paperlinx Europe; Jane Bickerstaff, director at The Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment and Chris Shearlock, sustainable development manager at the Co-operative Group.

Simon Smallwood, business development director at The Worshipful Company of Stationers & Newspaper Makers, said: "This year's Stationers' Summer Forum is concerned with a topic that is of interest and importance to everyone involved in the print, paper and packaging industries.

"The industry as a whole has a huge environmental footprint, and only by working in partnership will the issues be addressed and a level of sustainability achieved."

The Stationers' and WWF-UK seek to raise awareness of the challenges and the solutions through the Summer Forum debate.

The event is to be held at the Stationers' Hall in London on 15 June at 6pm. Some 120 representatives of the print and paper industry will be in attendance.
