PrintWeek Awards: Consumer Magazine Printer of the Year - Westdale Press

Commended in 2010, but triumphant this time around, Westdale scooped the top honour thanks to production that the judges said was simply class!, with high-quality paper and print used throughout.

The company scored highly across its four submissions, but special mention must be made of its work on the Glass summer 2011 edition for client Logical Connections. Only 1,750 copes of the 200pp title, which comprised 196pp text and a 4pp cover, were produced on its 10-colour Heidelberg XL 105-10P perfector using 115gsm Stora Enso LumiSilk FSC for the text and 300gsm LumiArt FSC for cover duties. According to Westdale Press, the prestigious magazine was demanding but "a real pleasure to produce". To ensure that the grain of the title ran parallel to the spine of the finished, bound volumes, CutStar reels were employed for the text with the cover printed B2 sheetfed.

Commended – Wyndeham Peterborough

Commended in 2011, Wyndeham Peterborough can be considered unlucky to miss out in this hard-fought category. Judges were impressed with the job the company did on producing 260,000 copies of The Economist magazine on a weekly basis. Printed solely on its Lithoman IV press, Wyndeham Peterborough uses 100gsm Sappi Galerie Fine Gloss for the magazine’s cover with 54gsm UPM Ultra for text pages.
