PrintWeek Awards: Catalogue Printer of the Year - Wyndeham Peterborough

Wyndeham Peterborough was asked to help reduce costs without compromising quality and that is exactly what it did for its client, Lands' End, with the work helping it scoop this year's top gong.

The PrintWeek judges found it extremely difficult to decide on a winner in this tight category. Wyndeham scored highly across each of its four submissions, which one judge said demonstrated a wide range of styles and a pro-active approach to production, but the work for Lands’ End managed to separate it from the pack. The 96pp plus 4pp cover piece was printed on the company’s 72pp web press to a run of 500,000 copies. The piece, which was then bound on its Kolbus KM 412 C machine, complemented the client’s longer-run gravure catalogues. Thanks to Wyndeham Peterborough’s holding ISO 14001 environmental accreditation, the Lands’ End piece become the first to be awarded Royal Mail’s sustainable mailing rate.

Commended – Westdale Press

According to the judging panel, Westdale ran a close second on the back of a submission that demonstrated quality and a good use of substrates throughout. The company said the Summer 2011 Pocket Book for client Toast was smaller, at 210x148mm, than other catalogues, but no less demanding. The 64pp text sections were printed on its Goss M600 JF55 while the 4pp cover was produced on a Heidelberg XL 105-12P.
