King Printing buys HP T300 inkjet web press

US book printer King Printing Company has ramped up its digital capabilities by investing in an HP T300 inkjet web press at the show.

The company, which specialises in educational and trade publications, already has a Screen Truepress and the T300 will join another recent investment, a Kodak Prosper Press. The full-colour HP press will be installed at the Lowell, Massachusetts site in June. As part of the T300 spend, King Printing will incorporate a Hunkeler Double Plow Folder system, which can process 30in webs.

"The T300 will fill capacity," said King Printing managing director Aditya Chinai. "We were impressed with the productivity of the press and the specifications. It can also handle a wide range of substrates."

He added that the demand in the market was for colour and that digital print had made significant advances in image quality. King Printing's run lengths range from one up to 50,000, with the average being around 1,200.

"More of our work is moving to digital," he said. "We've also found that demand for colour is outpacing black and white."

King Printing has focused primarily on the short-run market and alongside its digital capabilities, the company has web and sheetfed presses. Founded in 1978, it is a second-generation family owned business and made its first foray into digital back in the late 1980s.
