Help Line: Far-fetched folds & Xeikon users

Jo Francis tracks down the solutions to your technical troubles

Oh genius PrintWeek. Please help settle a query! What, oh what is a plough fold and when would it be used?

Attempting to condense this answer into Twitter’s 140-character limit I came up with the following: "On a web press, after being printed the paper passes over a thing shaped a bit like a plough. As it does so, it folds in half." With a bit more space to, erm, plough on, I might add that plough folding is also an option on the sort of folding machinery that deals with sheetfed work, too. Folio Bristol (0117 971 1118) provides this service, and I’ll leave it to the firm’s Paul Cook to explain: "As the section runs through the machine it arrives at the plough, which is a bit like a guard in the machine. The plough lifts it and turns it over more gently than a standard folding unit. It’s particularly useful for heavier stocks."

Can you please help with some suppliers for a digital B2 job? The spec for the job is: internal pages 312x216mm deep, landscape format, printed four-colour CMYK on 200gsm stock. The 4pp laminated cover has a nil capacity pocket running horizontally across the inside back cover approx 80mm high and is on a 350gsm grade. If you could give me a list of Xeikon users, and if you know anyone that could print the whole job digitally (including the cover), I would be very grateful.
